Item The Experience of the Religious through Silent Moving Image and the Silence of Bill Viola's Passions(FCT, 01/06/2009) Gil, InêsWith the creationof the moving image at the end of the 19th century a new way of representing and expressing the Religious was born. The cinema industry rapidly understood that film has a powerful way to attract new audiences and transformed the explicit religious message into an implicit theological discourse of the fictional film. Today, the concept of "cinema" needs to be rethought and expanded, as well as the notion of "tTranscendental" since the strong reality effect of the film can allow a true religious experience for the spectator.Item Günter Strauss e a Colecção de Minerais do Museu Mineiro do Louzal(Brandão J.M & et alea, 01/06/2010) Leite, Pedro PereiraGünter Strauss is Ph.D. in geology from the University of Munich in 1965. He is a German living by long time in Spain. Naw he is a SAPEC High Advisser His doctoral thesis, submitted in 1965, with the title "About the Geology of the Province of pyrite Southwest of the Iberian Peninsula and its oil fields, especially in the pyrite mine Louzal - Portugal" Systematized the term" Iberian Pyrite Belt ", called for the deposits of iron ore cuprífera, rich in sulfur and other metallic minerals, which occurs between the rivers Sado and Guadalquivir, where they settled several mining complexes, of Louzal, Rio Tinto, through Castro Verde, Santo Domingo and Tharsis. Local mining tradition with an ancient where today seeks to preserve the legacy and memory of mining through measures to enhance equity. The result of work carried out Louzal then formed the basis of geological and documentary collection that has survived and has been proposed for cultural units under the activities of the mining museum Louzal. The richness and importance of this collection, consisting of several hundred documents, geological samples classified, minerals and cartography, comes from its presence Situ"In its state of preservation, that despite the various threats it is still within reach of their preservation, and the relative rarity of such collections, with the units of mining production. This communication aims to reveal the contribution of Mr Strauss for the formation of this collection and submit his proposal for cultural units, with the hope that those responsible for safeguarding them understand the need for its preservation and dissemination. So discuss the scientific and professional way Günter Strauss, a geologic formation of the estate of Mines Louzal, and the draft musealization proposition. This was acknowledged by prominent historians like C R Boxer, M N Pearson, A Disney, J Wicki and others who reviewed the book in international journals of history. The colonial culture and the political climate were not helpful for the promotion of a critical approach.Item Methods and outcomes of the COMRADE project - Design of robust Combined control for robotic spacecraft and manipulator in servicing missions: comparison between between Hinf and nonlinear Lyapunov-based approaches(69th International Astronautical Congress (IAC), 01/10/2018) Colmenarejo, Pablo; Branco, João; Santos, Nuno; Serra, Pedro; Telaar, Juergen; Strauch, Hans; Fruhnert, Michael; Giordano, Alessandro; Stefano, Marco; Ott, Christian; Reiner, Matthias; Henry, David; Jaworski, Jaroslaw; Papadopoulos, Evangelos; Visentin, Gianfranco; Ankersen, Finn; Gil-Fernandez, JesusExtending life or repairing damaged on-orbit assets is not only a very attractive economic option for satellite operators as it could potentially increase margins for commercial services or increasing delivered value of scientific missions, but it would also help reducing the number of debris objects in space. These types of servicing missions pose technical challenges never faced until now. Of utmost relevance is the autonomous control of several movable devices, whose dynamics are inter-coupled (e.g., spacecraft platform, robotic manipulator, and end-effector), needed to safely and effectively achieve the mission objective. In the frame of ESA-supported COMRADE study, fully combined control (single control system controlling simultaneously all movable devices) is proposed due to its higher improvement potential (propellant saving, performances increase, safety) w.r.t. tele-operation, decoupled and/or collaborative control (the last one characterized by the use of two different control systems for the spacecraft platform and robotic manipulator respectively but, differently to the decoupled version, with information/feedback about what the other control system intends to do). Two independent combined control designs are developed in COMRADE (H∞ and nonlinear Lyapunov-based), and tested. Each of them is applied for both Active Debris Removal (ADR) and servicing/re-fuelling mission scenarios. This paper presents: the processes of scenario analysis and derivation of COMRADE system requirements; a description of the design and setup for a Simulator, which included at its core the selection, prototyping and integration of algorithms for Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC), Modes Management (AMM) and Failures Detection, Isolation and Recovery (FDIR) (all three together compose the COMRADE system) and the outcomes of the simulation phase of the Verification & Validation process. Item Museologia e Inovação Social(01/12/2014) Leite, Pedro PereiraThe article aims to analyze the relationship between social museology and social innovation. From the question of what is the museology should propose to read the major transformations taking place in contemporary societies, we seek to articulate the challenges of building an innovative museology. From the social museology as proposed meeting, we analyze the possibility of building social inclusion, the production of inclusive narratives and creation opportunity emancipatory initiatives in the field of social entrepreneurship. Proposta metodológica da museologiaItem Castes, Social Mobility and Politics in Goa(03/10/2012) Souza, Teotónio R. deWhile the colonial policies and the missionary activities dented the caste system by playing upon the caste rivalries to divide and rule, the post-independence Indian democracy transformed the traditional castes into valuable vote-banks that have permitted non-brahmin castes to achieve political leadership in several States, particularly following the politics of reservation recommended by the Mandal Commission in 1980s.Item The Economic and Racial Implications of the Globalization of Knowledge by Catholic Missionaries in Portuguese India, 16th-18th Centuries(03/10/2012) Souza, Teotónio R. deThe European Missionaries benefitted from the native Asian sources and knowledge providers much more than it is honestly acknowledged.Item The Role of the Non-Partisan Movements in Democracy. The Portuguese Case(Global Journals, 04/05/2020) Pinto, José Filipe- Since its birth in Greece, democracy has evolved mainly with regard to the role people or citizens must play in the system. That evolution explains not only the various modalities of democracy but also the formation of political parties and their change over time. There is no democracy without the parties, but the parties are not the owners of the democratic system, and this encourages the appearance of non-partisan movements that wish to be part of the power play. In Portugal, during Salazar’s dictatorship, political parties were forbidden. After returning to democracy, Portuguese law currently does not allow regional or local parties, as political parties need to act at the national level. However, the Constitution stipulated that non-partisan groups had the right to present lists to the lowest level of local power, the parish council. Despite the official constraint, these groups accepted the challenge, and their power and influence have increased since the first local election in 1976, and it was no wonder that, after the 1997 constitutional revision, the law had recognized them the right to apply for all the organs of the local power. Later, due to political dissents, some politicians decided to constitute non-partisan movements to run against the party that they had just abandoned. Nowadays, these groups rule over 17 of the 308 municipal councils, namely Porto, the second most important city in Portugal. Moreover, the nonpartisan movements are the third political force concerning local power, ruling over more than 400 parish councils. However, these groups cannot present lists to the central power, the National Assembly. This paper has a twofold aim. On the one hand, it analyses the evolution of the participation of non-partisan movements in the electoral acts, their influence in the political life in Portugal, their complaints against the electoral law, and their fight trying to change it. On the other hand, it sets out to explain the reaction of the parties towards the non-partisan groups and reflects on the modifications that these groups bring to democracy, adding a richness and depth to politics that has an impact on it.Item “Ganv thuim marodd" – Goan Ethnographic Heritage(Herald, Vol No CIX No: 185, 04/07/2009) Souza, Teotónio R. deTrata-se da primeira versão em inglês da Etnografia da Índia portuguesa (Goa, Bastóra, 1940), Vol. II, da autoria de A.B. Item Performance measurement of comon medical devices(06/03/2019) Ferreira, Maria Céu; Matos, Manuel; Mageijo, FilipaNowadays there is a high availability of medical devices with measuring function to populations. This availability has very positive aspects such as enhancing the capacity of measures of physiological parameters by population actively monitoring their health. In addition, there are inexpensive medical devices, sold not only in pharmacies but also everywhere. In this work we have studied several common Medical Devices with measuring function and compared the measurements performed in a group of volunteers of various ages and genera, all healthy. Item In the Shadow of Power(Herald, Goa, 09/05/2011) Souza, Teotónio R. dePedro Feytor Pinto headed the Department of Information Services (SEIT) in the government of Marcello Caetano who replaced Antonio Oliveira Salazar in 1968 as the head of the Portuguese government. Feytor Pinto has just released a book entitled Na Sombra do Poder (In the Shadow of Power)[Lisboa, D. Quixote, 2011, pp. 402]. Not wishing to classify it as history or memoirs, yet hoping that historians may find it useful, the author chooses to narrate events as he experienced them from his vantage point in the shadow of Power, during the years ending with the Carnation Revolt of 25 April 1974, which put an end to half a century of dictatorship, known as Estado Novo.
