    Actividad sexual y práticas de riesgo en una muestra de estudiantes universitarios galegos

    The use of condoms in sexual relations involving penetration is the only efficient preventive measure to avoid HIV sexual transmission and other sexually spread diseases. Increasing its adequate and systematic use is therefore the Target of prevention schemes meant to diminish risks in sexual activities, especially in teenagers and young adults, where the highest level of infection is being carried out. The aim of this work is to evaluate the level of use of male condom and to identify the main knowledge and actitudes beliefs linked to its use in a sample of 389 university youngsters (66.1% girls and 33.9% boys), in their first year in Ourense Campus (University of Vigo) with an average age of 19.04. The results show that 45% of the sexually active students use condoms systematically, with no significantly diferences between boys and girls in its use. Most sexual relations of the youngsters in this sample have to do with affective relations and the use of birth control pills take the place of condoms,the more regular the relation becomes . The views which are more linked to a systematic use of condoms are those which are related to its perception as an useful anticonceptive and something useful to have sex without taking any risk. Otherwise, if we evaluated those functions separetely, the results show a high level of students that use the condom to previne pregnancy (31%) than those who used it to previne sexual diseases (3,1%). Those differences should appear in prevention programs to increase condoms use in teenagers´sexual relations.

    Aplicación del ISRA-J en Adolescentes

    In this paper are exposed the results obtained by the administration of the ISRAJ for adolescent Inventory to a Spanish sample of adolescents. The ISRA-J is a multidimensional instrument rating anxiety and has been woked out by the Department of General Psychology in collaboration with the University Complutense of Madrid (A. Cano Vindel and J.J. Miguel Tobal, 1985). As the adults version of ISRA (Inventario de Situaciones y de Respuestas de Ansiedad), so the ISRA-J for adolescents presents various potentially anxious situations and the answers can be cognitive, physiological or motor. The study of the psychometric properties of the ISRA-J is the main purpose of this work and a sample of 178 Spanish normal adolescents of both genders, between 12 and 18 years, proceeding from various high schools of the Community of Madrid, has been surveyed. The outcomes will be presented and discussed, with particular regard to the validity properties (factor analysis and concurrent validity with the STAI of Spielberger) and gender and age differences resulting by the Anova analysis.

    Attention and selection behavior on ‘universal search’ result pages

    The ISO norm line 9241 states some criteria for ergonomics of human system interaction. In markets with a huge variety of offers and little possibility of differentiation, providers can gain a decisive competitive advantage by user oriented interfaces. A precondition for this is that relevant information can be obtained for entrepreneurial decisions in this regard. To test how users of universal search result pages use those pages and pay attention to different elements, an eye tracking experiment with a mixed design has been developed. Twenty subjects were confronted with search engine result pages (SERPs) and were instructed to make a decision while conditions “national vs. international city” and “with vs. without miniaturized Google map” were used. Different parameters like fixation count, duration and time to first fixation were computed from the eye tracking raw data and supplemented by click rate data as well as data from questionnaires. Results of this pilot study revealed some remarkable facts like a vampire effect on miniaturized Google maps. Furthermore, Google maps did not shorten the process of decision making, Google ads were not fixated, visual attention on SERPs was influenced by position of the elements on the SERP and by the users’ familiarity with the search target. These results support the theory of Amount of Invested Mental Effort (AIME) and give providers empirical evidence to take users’ expectations into account. Furthermore, the results indicated that the task oriented goal mode of participants was a moderator for the attention spent on ads. Most important, SERPs with images attracted the viewers’ attention much longer than those without images. This unique selling proposition may lead to a distortion of competition on markets.

    Attention to health cues on product packages

    The objectives of the study were (a) to examine which information and design elements on dairy product packages operate as cues in consumer evaluations of product healthfulness, and (b) to measure the degree to which consumers voluntarily attend to these elements during product choice. Visual attention was measured by means of eye-tracking. Task (free viewing, product healthfulness evaluation, and purchase likelihood evaluation) and product (five different yoghurt products) were varied in a mixed within-between subjects design. The free viewing condition served as a baseline against which increases or decreases in attention during product healthfulness evaluation and purchase likelihood evaluation were assessed. The analysis revealed that the only element operating as a health cue during product healthfulness evaluation was the nutrition label. The information cues used during purchase likelihood evaluation were the name of the product category and the nutrition label. Taken together, the results suggest that the only information element that consumers consistently utilize as a health cue is the nutrition label and that only a limited amount of attention is devoted to read nutrition labels during purchase likelihood evaluations. The study also revealed that the probability that a consumer will read the nutrition label during the purchase decision process is associated with gender, body mass index and health motivation.

    Attentional orienting to biologically fear-relevant stimuli: data from eye tracking using the continual alternation flicker paradigm

    Snakes are thought as fear-relevant stimuli (biologically prepared to be associated with fear) which can lead to an enhanced attentional capture when compared fear-irrelevant stimuli. Inherent limitations related to the key-press behaviour might be bypassed with the measurement of eye movements, since they are more closely related to attentional processes than reaction times. An eye tracking technique was combined with the flicker paradigm in two studies. A sample of university students was gathered. In both studies, an instruction to detect changes between the pair of scenes was given. Attentional orienting for the changing element in the scene was analyzed, as well the role of fear of snakes as a moderator variable. The results for both studies revealed a significant shorter time to first fixation for snake stimuli when compared to control stimuli. A facilitating effect of fear of snakes was also found for snakes, presenting the highly fear participants a shorter a time to first fixation for snake stimuli when compared to low-feared participants. The results are in line with current research that supports the advantage of snakes to grab attention due their evo-biological significance.

    Consolidación y crisis de la evaluación y modificación de la conducta

    Ever since 1970 the model of assessment and modification of behaviour has undertaken a large expansion. As an outcome of such an expansion thr model has integrated different variables, as well as various diversifications to different approaches. In this way, at the moment there are so many and diverse conceptualisations, methods of investigation and techniques that it makes it difficult to find a unique diagram or postulate to unifying them all. The same diversity has made many authors formulate different integrative proposals. (E.g. "The Integrated Behavioural Model" by Carrobles, 1985) Independently of this type of proposals, the majority of the authors that define themselves to be in accordance to this model realise that there are common aspects between the ones that emphasise the application of the experimental method and the ones that emphasise on the functional analysis of behaviour. From our own point of view and just as appointed by Kazdin, 1982, the assessment and modification of behaviour could be defined as the evaluation and intervention based on the experimental findings of the Psychology and other related sciences.

    A Criatividade no Autismo de Nível de Funcionamento Elevado (Sindroma de Kanner) e no Sindroma de Asperger

    A criatividade tem vindo a conseguir uma interpretação nas mais tradicionais teorias do comportamento humano e pode encontrar hoje nas vertentes modernas da psicologia científica, formas importantes e promissoras do seu aprofundamento, que parecem ser de valor heurístico considerável. Quando se tenta compreender e avaliar a criatividade através da análise de desempenhos de pessoas afectadas pelo síndroma de Kanner (autismo) e síndroma de Asperger, esta problemática parece tornar-se mais evidente, permitindo constatar a maior dificuldade de estabelecimento desses actos criativos nas pessoas afectadas por estes síndromas. Apesar da elevada eficiência de algumas pessoas com autismo em certas áreas de funcionamento, os conceitos de sobredotação e de genialidade encontram assim um melhor enquadramento só podendo ser considerados num relativo equilíbrio com os demais eixos do desenvolvimento psicológico.

    O desejo na poesia de John Donne

    Jacques Lacan menciona que o uso, a transmissão e a função da palavra «desejo» são bem ilustrados pelo poeta metafísico John Donne na natureza de suas criações poéticas. Diferentes séculos produziram diferentes leituras do poema Ecstasy de John Donne, mas o que distingue é que a sua linguagem poética não apela diretamente aos sentidos, mas à relação fundamental do sujeito com o significante.
