Research has established that violence is considered a social problem, which is also manifested in intimate relationships. The first was to examine the prevalence of victimization and perpetration of psychological, physical and sexual violence in women flagged or referenced by the police or the CPCJ as exposed to violence in intimate relationships. The second objective was to test independent models of predicting the differences between victimization and perpetration of negotiation, physical violence without sequelae, psychological violence, physical violence with sequelae and sexual violence in women flagged as exposed to intimate relationships violence. The sample consisted of 160 women, 81 (50.6%) participants lived in shelters and 79 (49.4%) lived at home with the aggressors. The results showed that the prevalence of victimization ranged from 63.5% (negotiation) to 100% (sexual violence) and perpetration from 10.7% (physical violence) to 98.7% (psychological violence). The results also showed that sociodemographic variables were only significant in predicting the victimization-perpetration negotiation index, the psychological violence index and the victimization-perpetration sexual violence index, but the addition of depressive symptomatology, childhood adversity and PTSD symptomatology contributed significantly to the explanation of the variance of the five victimization-perpetration indices. Thus, our results, suggesting that mental health problems in women are associated with differences between victimization and perpetration of violence in intimate relationships, showing implications for the evaluation and clinical intervention with women signaled by exposure to violence in intimate relationships.
