A criança com doença oncológica em Luanda: preocupações e dificuldades da família

Mesmo com o avanço da ciência e da tecnologia, o cancro continua a ser uma das
doenças que mais mata. O cancro pediátrico apresenta-se como um grande stressor para
a criança, mas também para a sua família, principalmente para os seus pais, visto que
são os principais cuidadores. O cancro de uma criança é um momento de grande
perturbação obrigando a família a adaptar toda a sua vida e rotinas, sendo por isso um
foco de muitas preocupações e dificuldades, sendo um momento de grande sofrimento e
incertezas. O objetivo do presente trabalho é identificar as dificuldades e preocupações
apresentadas pelas famílias de crianças com cancro em Angola, tendo em consideração
que este país, apesar dos avanços económicos dos últimos anos, ainda se encontra em
desenvolvimento. Para a concretização deste estudo, optou-se por uma metodologia
qualitativa, entrevistando-se 30 familiares de crianças a frequentar a consulta
oncológica pediátrica do Instituto Nacional Angolano de Apoio ao Câncer, de forma a
descrever e compreender as experiencias das famílias de crianças com doença
oncológica. As principais dificuldades apresentadas são as financeiras, relativamente às
despesas efetuadas com medicação, alimentação e transportes. Lidar com as novas
rotinas, com o sofrimento dos filhos e com a negligência de outros aspetos da vida,
como os outros filhos e a vida social são também problemas que estes familiares
apresentam. A intervenção junto das famílias, quer no âmbito financeiro, quer
psicológico e emocional, nos casos de cancro pediátrico, torna-se imperativa no sentido
de melhor ajustar o comportamento parental e melhorar a sua qualidade de vida,
contribuindo assim para um maior apoio junto da criança doente. Realça-se também a
necessidade de mais profissionais na área social, nomeadamente assistentes sociais, para
dar apoio a estas famílias.

Even with the advancement of science and technology, cancer continues to be one of the deadliest diseases. Pediatric cancer presents itself as a major stressor for the child, but also for his family, especially for his parents, since they are the main caregivers. The cancer of a child is a time of great disturbance forcing the family to adapt their whole life and routines, being therefore a focus of many worries and difficulties, being a moment of great suffering and uncertainties. The objective of the present study is to access the difficulties and concerns presented by the families of children with cancer in Angola, considering that this country, despite the economic advances of the last years, is still in development. To achieve this study, a qualitative methodology was chosen, with 30 family members of children attending the pediatric oncology consultation of the Angolan National Cancer Support Institute, to describe and understand the experiences of families of children with illness cancer. The main difficulties presented are financial, in relation to medication, food and transport. Dealing with the new routines, the suffering of the children and the neglect of other aspects of life such as other children and social life are also problems that these family members present. Intervention among families, both financially, psychologically and emotionally, in cases of pediatric cancer is imperative to better adjust parental behavior and improve their quality of life, thus contributing to greater support for the sick child. It is also highlighted the need for more professionals in the social area, namely social workers, to support these families.
