Nos efetivos de pequenos ruminantes fala-se frequentemente de “doenças de rebanho”, na medida em que são observadas e controladas de forma coletiva e não individual. Nesse sentido, só uma abordagem multidisciplinar e integrada por parte do médico veterinário assistente possibilitará a gestão e implantação de planos de saúde no rebanho. Doenças como a mastite, diarreia neonatal, aborto, peeira, doença respiratória, enterotoxemia e doenças debilitantes serão revistas por forma a serem caracterizadas e facilmente identificáveis no momento do seu aparecimento num rebanho de pequenos ruminantes, com o objetivo de estabelecer medidas preventivas. Os planos de saúde do rebanho apresentados e utilizados no decorrer do estágio serão abordados e discutidos com a apresentação de dois casos clínicos acompanhados pelo estagiário.Health management is an universal and very current issue, and it can and should also be approached in veterinary medicine, especially when we speak of animal collectives and not of the individual per se. Small ruminant’s diseases are often referred as “herd diseases” in a way that they are observed and controlled collectively rather than individually. In this sense only a multidisciplinary and integrated approach by the veterinarian will enable the management and implementation of health plans in the herd. Diseases such as mastitis, neonatal diarrhea, abortion, foot rot or infectious pododermatitis, respiratory disease, enterotoxemia and debilitating diseases will be reviewed for easier caracterization and easily identifiable at the time of their appearance in a small ruminant herd, making possible the implementation of preventive measures.
