O enfoque do estudo desta problemática está na gestão da comunicação das auxiliares de ação direta, levado a acabo pela direção técnica, que é frequentemente assistente social. Esta gestão assume um ponto privilegiado no que concerne ao redireccionamento da representação social da Pessoa Idosa, que de forma genérica apresenta-se numa conotação negativa: uma vez que o contexto determina o individuo tanto quanto o individuo determina o contexto. Esta é uma estratégia que não se sintetiza, nem está dependente de ações estruturais – embora também necessárias. Foi utilizada a triangulação metodológica para obtenção de informação empírica de quatro equipamentos sociais no concelho de Santiago do Cacém. No final desta dissertação é apresentado um referencial de qualidade – designado «Qualidade para a Pessoa Idosa», que assenta da certificação da qualidade não nos serviços prestados, mas na qualidade de humanização e desenvolvimento pessoal da Pessoa Idosa, assente numa visão integral como pessoa e não como prestação de serviços para manutenção de saúde.The present master's dissertation develops around the problematic of the social representation of the Elderly - in the cultural space, in the social politics and in the institutional spaces, since the social representations are formed through the context and the social interactions. The focus of the study of this problematic is in the management of the communication of the direct-action auxiliaries, carried out by the technical direction, which is often social worker. This management assumes a privileged point regarding the redirection of the Elderly's social representation, which generally presents itself in a negative connotation: since the context determines the individual as much as the individual determines the context. This is a strategy that is neither synthesized nor dependent on structural actions - though also necessary. Methodological triangulation was used to obtain empirical information from four social facilities in the municipality of Santiago do Cacém.
