Atenta nos objectivos profissionais, planeou-se um estudo, onde se tentasse reflectir sobre a problemática da Síndrome de Down e assim, salientar o facto de que uma criança ou jovem com esta problemática pode ter uma vida integrada na sociedade. Pretende-se ainda compreender os mecanismos de comunicação e linguagem, pois a linguagem verbal é o instrumento ou meio de comunicação e representação por excelência. A linguagem é um dos aspectos mais importantes a ser desenvolvido por qualquer criança, para que possa relacionarse com as outras pessoas e integrar-se no seu meio social. Neste sentido, fez-se um estudo para perceber se os educadores estão sensibilizados para esta problemática e se procuram encontrar estratégias e recursos que facilitem e desenvolvam a comunicação e a linguagem promovendo a motivação e a igualdade de oportunidades à criança com Síndrome de Down, considerando as suas necessidades e especificidades no desenvolvimento da planificação pedagógica para todo o grupo.The essay "Communication and Language in Down syndrome" came with the need to improve the knowledge about this pathology and understand the children’s specialness, to give them the best as an educator. With professional goals as a guideline, it was planned a study, which tried to reflect on the issue of Down syndrome, and emphasizing the fact that a child or young person with this problem may have an integrated life in society. The aim is also to understand the mechanisms of communication and language, because verbal language is the instrument or means of communication and primal representation. Language is one of the most important aspects to be developed for any child, so they can interact to others and integrate their social environment.
