Método: revisão sistemática, utilizando as guidelines do PRISMA-P. Elaboraram-se critérios de elegibilidade para a seleção das publicações e a pesquisa foi realizada em 4 bases de dados eletrónicas. O processo foi efetuado por dois investigadores independentes. Resultados: os estudos são todos de natureza quantitativa, na sua maioria design transversal retrospetivo, sendo que também na sua maioria os dados foram recolhidos de centros educativos. A maioria dos estudos desenvolveu-se nos Estados Unidos da América e os estudos recorrem a variados instrumentos para recolha de dados. Os resultados na sua grande maioria remetem-nos para os mesmos resultados. Conclusão: Os estudos demonstram problemas ao nível da saúde mental das jovens, sendo que, alguns correlacionam os problemas de internalização e externalização, abordam os fatores de risco e protetores e chegam à conclusão da necessidade de rever estratégias de prevenção e intervenção diferentes do sexo masculino.Objective: to describe the research and literature on the psychological characterization of juvenile offenders. Method: systematic review, using the PRISMA-P guidelines. Eligibility criteria were developed for the selection of publications and the search was carried out in 4 electronic databases. The process was carried out by two independent investigators. Results: the studies are all quantitative in nature, most of them retrospective cross sectional design, and most of the data were also collected from educational centers. Most of the studies were developed in the United States of America and the studies use different instruments for data collection. The results for the most part refer us to the same results.
