Por isso, o envolvimento dos tutores é essencial para reconhecer sinais clínicos e garantir um diagnóstico precoce e um tratamento adequado. Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a perceção dos proprietários sobre a dor oral nos seus cães e compará-la com a avaliação feita por médicos veterinários. Para isso, foi aplicado um questionário a 108 tutores durante consultas em dois CAMVs. As respostas foram analisadas e comparadas com a avaliação clínica dos veterinários, com o intuito de identificar diferenças na perceção da dor oral. Os resultados mostraram que, embora 74% dos tutores afirmem estar atentos à saúde oral dos seus cães, muitos não conseguem identificar sinais iniciais, como inflamação gengival e mobilidade dentária (Apêndice I). Além disso, verificou-se que a maioria não procura consultas veterinárias especificamente para avaliar a saúde oral, o que evidencia uma falta de conscientização sobre o tema. O estudo também destacou alguns desafios, como a dificuldade de preenchimento do questionário devido ao grande número de perguntas e a necessidade de uma amostra maior para obter dados mais consistentes. Conclui-se que é fundamental investir em ações educativas para os tutores e promover campanhas de sensibilização sobre o impacto da dor oral na qualidade de vida dos cães, incentivando a prevenção e o acompanhamento veterinário regular.The approach to oral pain in dogs and cats in veterinary medicine extends beyond the clinical aspect, becoming an ethical and pragmatic imperative to ensure the well-being of these companion animals. Understanding such pain is challenging, given the animals' inability to verbally express discomfort. Thus, incorporating owners' perceptions is crucial, as they can observe subtle yet critical changes in their pets' behavior. Using this questionnaire during veterinary consultations, we aim to gather data on behavioral changes in daily activities and alert owners to potential veterinary interventions. The complexity of this approach lies in integrating owners' subjective perceptions with veterinarians' objective observations during consultations. Collecting data in this manner enables a dynamic analysis of owners’ responses, enhancing the understanding of oral pain perception in animals' daily routines. This research not only aims to generate knowledge but also to shape more effective, animal-centered clinical practices. By combining the owners' subjective experiences with clinical evaluations, the study seeks to build a more comprehensive and applicable understanding. The analysis of the questionnaire shows that owners have some awareness of their pets oral health status. However, there is a lack of understanding regarding the potential consequences of oral health issues, including the severity of oral pathologies and the associated pain.
