A primeira questão a colocar, prende-se com o domínio do Sagrado em si mesmo: como primeira hipótese de trabalho, poderemos considerar que é para nós sagrado tudo o que constitui um aforismo. Esse aforismo é identificável dentro de um determinado sistema cultural: aquele a que pertencemos. Ora, ao referirmos um “dentro”, pressupõe-se a existência de um “fora”. É nesta rotura que o Sagrado se manifesta, por oposição ao Profano, ou seja, em oposição ao que lhe é exterior.In order to being able to talk about Architecture and Sacred Space one should start by establishing some contours to the theme, whose contents present us with different hypothesis of comprehension. The first question has to do with the Sacred in itself: as a first hypothesis we can consider sacred as all which constitutes an aphorism. This aphorism is identifiable within a certain cultural system; the one we belong to. As referring to “within” something we are supposing the existence of a “without”.
