A adição à Internet, em especial às redes sociais, não é considerada um distúrbio no American Psychological Association (2013). No entanto, uma taxa alarmante de utilizadores mostra sintomas de adição a estes comportamentos. Vários são os estudos que mencionam a adição à Internet, mas poucos evidenciam a adição às redes sociais. Desta forma, a presente investigação tem como objetivo avaliar a adição dos jovens estudantes portugueses às redes sociais e a sua relação com a Psicopatologia, utilizando para o efeito um Questionário Sociodemográfico, um Inventário de Sintomas Psicopatológicos e uma Escala de Adição às Redes Sociais, traduzida e validada para população portuguesa. Trata-se de um estudo transversal, com uma amostra aleatória constituída por 550 estudantes de ambos os sexos. O utilizador médio não apresenta sintomas psicopatológicos nem adição às redes sociais.The social networks are mainly used with social purposes, such as the communication between peers, enabling the construction of relationships in a new shape. The addiction to the Internet, specially to the social networks, is not considered a disorder in the American Psychological Association (2013). However, an alarming rate of users shows symptoms of addiction to this behaviour. There are many studies that mention the addiction to the Internet, but few depict the addiction to social networks. Thus, the current investigation aims to evaluate the addiction of young portuguese students to the social networks as well as its relationship with Psychopathology by using a Sociodemographic Questionnaire, an Brief Symptom Invenrory and a Social Media Addiction, translated and validated for the portuguese population. This is a transversal study with a random sample of 550 students of both genders.
