A permanência nestas relações prende-se muitas vezes com as barreiras encontradas na procura de ajuda. Na tentativa de identificar as barreiras na procura de ajuda encontradas pelas diferentes vítimas, bem como aceder à perceção dos técnicos de primeira linha sobre essas barreiras e sobre o apoio disponível para as vítimas, foram realizadas entrevistas semiestruturadas a homens e mulheres vítimas de VI (n = 3) e a técnicos que contatam com estas vítimas (n = 5). Através da análise temática das entrevistas, verificou-se que as vítimas partilham entre si a maioria das barreiras (e.g., medo, vergonha, isolamento), no entanto foram identificadas barreiras específicas a cada grupo de vítimas (e.g., paradigma do género, sociedade patriarcal, homofobia). Verificou-se ainda que os técnicos têm a perceção da existência destas barreiras, bem como das melhorias necessárias para combater esta problemática. Com estes resultados, pode concluir-se que é urgente obter maior conhecimento das especificidades inerentes a cada tipo de vítima, de modo a responder às suas necessidades, bem como investir na criação e melhoria dos serviços de apoio à vítima e na prevenção deste fenómeno.Intimate partner violence is a current and universal phenomenon, covering different victims (men and women in heterosexual and homosexual relationships) and causing repercussions at different levels (social, physical and psychological). The maintenance in these relationships is often related to the barriers encountered in seeking help. In an attempt to identify the barriers in the search for help found by the different victims, as well as to access the perception of first-line technicians about these barriers and on the support available to victims, semi-structured interviews were conducted with men and women victims of intimate partner violence (n = 3) and technicians who contact these victims (n = 5). Through the thematic analysis of the interviews, it was found that the victims share with each other most of the barriers (e.g., fear, shame, isolation), however, specific barriers were identified to each group of victims (e.g., gender paradigm, patriarchal society, homophobia). It was also found that technicians have the perception of the existence of these barriers, as well as the improvements necessary to combat this problem.
