A eletroquimioterapia (EQT) é uma modalidade terapêutica direcionada a neoplasias cutâneas e subcutâneas, que tem vindo a ganhar popularidade, tanto em Medicina Humana como em Medicina Veterinária, em neoplasias deste tipo histológico, pela elevada eficácia e baixa toxicidade reportadas. O presente estudo pretendeu descrever e avaliar, com base numa classificação adaptada do documento Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events Following Chemotherapy or Biological Antineoplastic Therapy in Dogs and Cats v1.0 (CTCAE) desenvolvido pelo Veterinary Co-operative Oncology Group (VCOG) em 2004, os efeitos adversos associados a esta modalidade terapêutica numa amostra de 17 gatos com CCE oral e cutâneo na região da cabeça submetidos a pelo menos uma sessão de EQT. Verificou-se que todos os animais apresentaram efeitos adversos pelo menos uma vez, sendo que a dor e a necrose estiveram presentes em 100% dos animais. As toxicidades constitucional, respiratória e gastrointestinal também estiveram presentes em mais de metade da amostra. As toxicidades observadas foram maioritariamente de grau II CTCAEVCOG.Squamous cell carcinoma is a malignant neoplasm that originates in the squamous epithelium, which accounts for about 10% to 15% of cutaneous neoplasms and about 60 to 70% of oral neoplasms in cats. Electrochemotherapy is a therapeutic modality directed to cutaneous and subcutaneous neoplasms, which has gaining popularity in both Human and Veterinary Medicine, in tumors of this histological type, due to its high efficacy and low toxicity. All animals were found to have adverse effects at least once, with pain and necrosis being present in 100% of the animals. Constitutional, respiratory and gastrointestinal toxicity were also present in more than half of the sample.
