Tendo por foco central o estudo do Semanário O São Paulo. O texto parte da utopia pretendida por membros da arquidiocese naquele período, que contestava a visão de sociedade imposta pelos governantes. O Semanário O São Paulo se conflitava com a linha jornalística pretendida pelos militares, e adotava uma “vocação cidadã”. O trabalho busca avaliar a presença de um meio de comunicação numa realidade conflitante, utilizando fontes orais e análise de conteúdo.The present text was elaborated from a research made during the doctor’s degree pursuit that is still in course. Its object is the actuation of the Catholic Church in the archdiocese of São Paulo, during the military dictatorship (1964-1985) focusing the study of the weekly publication O São Paulo. The text starts from the utopia the members of the archdiocese pursued during that period that defied the rulers’ idea of society. The weekly publication O São Paulo was against the journalistic line objected by the military men and adopted a “citizen vocation”.
