Diplomata, maçom e católico, com caráter firme, foi um dos mais influentes do pensamento contrarevolucionário no período da Revolução Francesa (1789-1799). Em 1792, deixa a sua terra natal (Chambéry) e ruma em direção do exílio. Defende o retorno da Monarquia Absoluta. Com base numa análise documental e de arquivos disponíveis, neste artigo procuramos refletir sobre o seu pensamento de Maistre, sobretudo sobre a oração, o pecado original e a redenção. A sua fidelidade maçónica e sua frequência com os “Iluminados” permitiram-lhe perseguir o seu ideal de renovação religiosa e de unidade eclesiástica.Author of Considérations sur la France (1797), the Pape (1819) and the Soirées de Saint Pétersbourg (1822), Joseph de Maistre (1753-1821) remains polemic and controversial. Diplomat, freemason and catholic, with a firm character, he was one of the most influential of counter-revolutionary thought in the period of the French Revolution (1789-1799). In 1792, he left his native Chambéry and went into exile. He advocated the return of Absolute Monarchy. On the basis of a documentary and archival analysis available, in this article we seek to reflect on de Maistre's thought, especially on prayer, original sin and redemption.
