Conscientes das limitações de um trabalho como este, limitar-nos-emos a escutar a voz de três privilegiados interlocutores que tanto têm contribuído para essa tomada de consciência cultural e civilizacional de Portugal no mundo: Antero de Quental, José Saramago e João de Melo. O primeiro passo que temos de dar é conhecer e só depois julgar, conhecer a nossa própria identidade, a nossa realidade histórica, cultural, social. Posteriormente, virá a descoberta do «outro», o seu reconhecimento e a sua aceitação, e só então poderemos decidir se somos parte de um Todo ou de um Tudo.We will attempt a reflection about the historical contexts that have molded Portuguese culture, and literature will always be a privileged means for a current reflection. Aware of the limitations of such a duty, we will limit ourselves to listening to three privileged interlocutors that have contributed to that cultural and civilizational conscience of Portugal in the world: Antero de Quental, José Saramago and João de Melo. The first step we have to take is to get to know our own identity, our historical, cultural and social reality and only after can we judge it.
