Considerando que este é um mecanismo complexo e bastante dinâmico, são ainda referidas teorias propostas por grupos de investigadores na expectativa de explicar tal mecanismo. Nos últimos anos, aspectos farmacêuticos relacionados com a mucoadesão têm sido muito salientados na literatura, uma vez que podem constituir uma possível solução para problemas de biodisponibilidade que resultam de uma curta permanência da forma farmacêutica no local de absorção. Por último, foi elaborada uma revisão sobre os polímeros bioadesivos e suas características físico-químicas e as respectivas vantagens resultantes da sua aplicação sob o ponto de vista farmacêutico, bem como o desenvolvimento de polimeros bioadsivos de segunda geração, nomeadamente polimeros contendo grupos tiolato, lectinas e proteinas fimbriais.This is a review article that intends to describe the mucoadhesion mechanism, referencing stages of adhesion and the factors that affect the bioadhesive powder. There are yet referenced theories proposed by research workers that attempt to explain the mucoadhesion mechanism because it's a very dynamic and complex mechanism. Pharmaceutical aspects of mucoadhesion have been the subject of great interest during recent years because mucoadhesion could be a solution for bioavailability problems that result from a too short length of stay of the pharmaceutical dosage form at the absorption site. Another subject of this work is to intend to elaborate a detailed description over bioadhesive polymers, their physicochemical characteristics and the resulting advantages of their application in the pharmaceutical point of view.
