Item Assessing reliability and validity of the Child PTSD Symptom Scale in portuguese adolescents(Elsevier Masson s.r.l., 2019-11) Pinto, Ricardo José Martins; Santos, Patrícia Correia; Castro, Maria Vieira de; Jongenelen, Inês Martins; Levendosky, Alytia; Maia, Ângela Rosa da Costa; HEI-LAB - Human Environment Interaction LabObjective This study assessed psychometric properties of a self-reported measure of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) for adolescents based on DSM-5 criteria–the Child PTSD Symptom Scale–Self Report. We tested the internal consistency, test-retest reliability, and convergent validity. Method The participants were 317 Portuguese adolescents (53% females) between 13 and 17 years old who had experienced at least one traumatic event or one childhood adversity. A subset of the sample (n = 85) completed test-retest measures (interval range between 5 and 7 months). Results Analyses revealed good to excellent internal consistencies, moderate to good agreement test-retest reliability, and good convergent validity. Conclusions Results supported the use of the CPSS-SR-5 scale as a valid and reliable measure for the identification of PTSD symptoms and probable diagnosis according to DSM-5 criteria in Portuguese adolescents.Item Exploring the therapeutic role of alternative tribute practices in bereavement : a longitudinal study during the pandemic(European Grief Conference, 2024-11) Albuquerque, Sara; Valente, Ana; Pinto, Ricardo José Martins; Buyukcan-Tetik, Asuman; Coelho, Alexandra; HEI-LAB - Human Environment Interaction LabItem Grief rumination : the mediating link between guilt, pending issues, and bereavement outcomes(European Grief Conference, 2024-11) Albuquerque, Sara; Pinto, Ricardo José Martins; Buyukcan-Tetik, Asuman; Coelho, Alexandra; HEI-LAB - Human Environment Interaction LabItem Health behaviors as a mediator of the association between interpersonal relationships and physical health in a workplace context(Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI), 2019-07-01) Pinto, Ricardo José Martins; MOURA, ANDREIA DE PAIVA RIBEIRO DE; Dinis, Maria Alzira Pimenta; Pedrosa e Sousa, Hélder Fernando; Viterbo, Lilian Monteiro Ferrari; HEI-LAB - Human Environment Interaction Lab; FPED - Faculty of Psychology, Education and SportThe etiology of diseases is multifactorial, involving genetic, environmental, and lifestyle-related behaviors. Considering the pathway that involves behavioral processes, a huge body of empirical evidence has shown that some healthy behaviors such as non-smoking, any or moderate alcohol consumption, a healthy diet, (e.g., fruit and vegetable intake), and physical activity, decrease the risk of disease and mortality. This study aimed to explore the potential mediating effect of combined health behaviors on the association between interpersonal relationships and physical health in a Brazilian adult worker population from the Occupational Health Service within the oil industry in Bahia, Brazil. The sample included 611 workers, of which 567 (92.8%) were males and 44 (7.2%) females, age ranging from 18 to 73 years (M = 41.95; SD = 8.88). The significant predictors of physical health were interpersonal relationships and health behaviors. Health behaviors contributed significantly to a reduction in the effect of interpersonal relationships on physical health outcomes. As far as it is known, there has been no prior work in Brazil that simultaneously examined the best predictors of physical health in oil workers using this conceptual model. Interventions in the workplace environment need to consider health behavior as a mediator between interpersonal relationships and physical health, aligned in a global psychosocial approach to health at work.Item Predictors of higher education dropout intention in the post-pandemic era : The mediating role of academic exhaustion(Public Library of Science, 2025-07-08) GONZALEZ, BARBARA ISABEL DINIZ; MENDES, TERESA PAULA GAMEIRO POMPEU; Pinto, Ricardo José Martins; Correia, Sónia Vladimira; Albuquerque, Sara; Paulino, Ana Paula Oliveira; HEI-LAB - Human Environment Interaction Lab; CIDEFES - Research group in Sports behavior, Physical Education, and Exercise and Health SciencesIntroduction The phenomenon of dropout in higher education needs the acknowledging of its multi-domain complexity. In the post-pandemic era, exhaustion may be a relevant feature affecting students. This cross-sectional study aimed primarily to test a predictive model of five domains of variables (background, academic, social, psychological, and economic) on dropout intention, in a relation mediated by academic exhaustion. Secondarily, it aimed to assess the structural invariance of this model across working status (working vs. non-working students) and residence status (living away from family’s residence vs. living in family residence). If these groups are differently affected by dropout determinants, specific dropout prevention measures should be implemented. Method A stratified sample of 1402 Portuguese university students aged between 19 and 45 years (M=22.87, SD=3.64), selected through a convenience quota method, was assessed for background, academic, social, psychological, and economic variables using self-report instruments. Structural equation modelling was used. Results The predictive model explained 51% of the variance in dropout intention. Academic exhaustion was the stronger predictor (β=0.523, p<.001), followed by social connecteness to the campus (β=−31, p<.001), vocational difficulties (β=0.274, p<.001), and course value (β=−0.256, p<.001). Except for the course value, and family educational level, all significant predictors had their effect on dropout intention through academic exhaustion. The model was invariant across working and residence status. Discussion This study shows the relevance of students’ academic exhaustion experiences as a pathway through which different types of factors exert their influence on students´ dropout intentions. The invariance of the predictive model of dropout intention across different groups points the robustness of the model and the relevance of the integrated variables. The results emphasize the importance of student´s individual factors (e.g., academic exhaustion, lack of fit with the course) in dropout decisions, also stressing the role of academic institutions and of the education system in addressing this phenomenon, concerning academic workload, vocational orientation, social environment, and financing.
