Resumo
Disciplina instituída no sistema educativo do século XIX, com o objetivo de promover a identificação dos jovens cidadãos com a pátria, a vocação da Geografia é mais a de descrever um país harmonioso do que a de denunciar os problemas sociais ou ambientais. Esta tradição perdura até aos nossos dias, como a análise a programas e manuais escolares de Portugal, Espanha e Chile demonstra. Os problemas socioambientais são desvalorizados e reduzidos a informação estatística, onde não se reconhecem os anseios das populações. Este discurso escolar é reforçado pela atuação dos organismos internacionais, mas atentos ao desempenho dos alunos nas áreas, que consideram com impacto direto na economia e no mercado de trabalho, que à sua formação cidadã. Entretanto, no espaço ibero-americano desenvolvem-se redes de contato e de trabalho, que buscam uma educação geográfica comprometida socialmente.
Discipline instituted in the educational system of the nineteenth century, with the aim of promoting the identification of young citizens with the motherland, the vocation of Geography it’s more to describe a harmonious country than to denounce social or environmental problems. This tradition continues to this day, as the analysis of school programs and textbooks in Portugal, Spain and Chile shows. Social and environmental problems are devalued and reduced to statistical information, where people’s desires are not recognized. This school discourse is reinforced by the performance of international organizations, but attentive to the students’ performance in the areas they consider to have a direct impact on the economy and the labor market, rather than on their citizen training.However, in the Ibero-American space, contact and work networks are developed, which seek a geographically committed social education.
