Resumo
Este artigo pretende analisar a multidimensionalidade
do modelo de estudos de recepção,
apresentando, para esse efeito, os resultados
de dois projectos de investigação. Enquanto o
primeiro projecto incide sobre a reacção de
imigrantes brasileiras à representação das suas
conterrâneas nos media portugueses, o segundo
debruça-se sobre a reacção das portuguesas à
representação do feminino enquanto sujeito e
Estas
interpretações de significados veiculados pelos
media indicam que as redefinições de identidades
étnica e de género são condicionadas
pelo imaginário bem como por imperativos de
ordem económica.
This article attempts to analyse the multidimensionality of the reception studies model by exploring the results of two research projects, the first of which focusses on how the Brazilian woman immigrant engages with Portuguese media representation of the Brazilian woman, and the second of which examines how the Portuguese woman perceives Portuguese press representation of women as subject and object of news. On the basis of a multidimensional model of the media that divides media culture into the categories of representational fidelity, agonistic public space and media functionality, we will examine the way ethnic and gendered stereotypes are assimilated in daily life through the adoption of preferred, negotiated and oppositional readings. These interpretations of meanings which are circulated by the media point to redefinitions of ethnic and gendered identities as conditioned both by the imagination as well as by economic factors.
