Several studies suggest that an estimated 50% of the population recognizes themselfs in this “Sensitive Skin” condition. No studies have been published regarding the Portuguese reality but here, as in other markets, this product segment continues to experience outstanding developments. This study aimed to assess, within the community pharmacies universe chosen, the proportion of consumers referring, when asked, to suffer from any kind of particular skin susceptibility. This descriptive cross sectional study allowed to collect the information through a structured questionnaire. 333 questionnaires (n= 333) were validated. 46% (153/333) of the surveyed individuals described their skin as sensitive. The respondents were predominantly women (248/333), but no relationship has been found between gender and the response to the skin sensibility question (p= 0.307). The face was the most frequently mentioned area of the body (108 / 153) and environmental and contact causes were the main responsible for the reported sensitivity. This patient profile here identified seems to be coincident with the patient-type pattern reported in previous published works.
