Resumo
Este texto foi apresentado, na sua versão em inglês, na Third EAAE-ENHSA Sub- network Workshop on Architectural Theory. Havendo hoje necessidade de reflectir sobre o âmbito das investigações disciplinares em Arquitectura, este texto procurará lançar a questão da fundamentação na Arquitectura. Ao fazê-lo, não o faz no sentido de questionar a validade do seu objecto, mas antes procurando conferir-lhe alguns contornos. Para tal usa os seis conceitos lançados por Vitrúvio acerca da constituição da Arquitectura, procurando, por etapas pré-determinadas, encontrar o significado das suas transformações. Verificamos aqui que da Antiguidade aos nossos dias a Arquitectura sofreu uma verdadeira inversão no seu papel mediador. De uma mediação entre o sagrado e o profano, a Arquitectura passa, paulatinamente, por se constituir como elemento mediador entre um objecto físico natural e o sujeito, até se constituir como mediação entre um sistema sintáxico autónomo a uma autoconsciência.
This paper was presented at Third EAAE-ENHSA Sub-network Workshop on Architectural Theory. Since we find necessary to reflect on disciplinary architectural research, this text will try to propose some thoughts on the epistemological bases of Architecture. When doing so, we won’t try to question the validity of its object, but instead, we will try to give it some shape. For such purpose we will use the six Vitruvian concepts mentioned in his architectural treatise as we seek, in predefined stages, to find the meaning of their transformations along history. Here we verify that, during the period that occur from Antiquity to our days, Architecture mediation roll suffered an inversion. From the sacred and the profane unity, Architecture gradually became a mediator between a natural physical object and man, until, more recently, it became the relation between an autonomous syntax system and men’s self conscience.
