O revestimento cerâmico : o azulejo na arquitetura e na era virtual

This research intends to analyse what is understood as ceramic tiles, through the analysis and description of their historical development, manufacture and function mainly from the sixteenth century, supported by the development of pastes and raw materials. With the analysis of the Case Studies, the industrial development, the new understanding of urban art and the requalification of the Cities, we seek to involve this material also as a vehicle for the spread of Public Art with an increasingly promising future, beyond the functions that we all know. It ceased to be called a minor art because it has already appropriated the architecture, assuming its own identity in an art in full development, contrary to the modernist current of simplification of adornments and decorations, but using its remarkable reference that, in the urban context, confers a proper meaning to public art full of great artistic and social significance. With the new technologies backed up in the very small constitution of the material and computers, it is also predicted a promising future for the ceramic tiles whose performance, according to current trends, may help the architecture itself in its sustainable aspects of conservation, comfort and energy savings.
