Item Escolas a bordo : instituições de formação de marinheiros no Brasil e em Portugal(University of Lusophone Humanities and Technology, 2017) Lima, Solyane Silveira; Faculdade de Ciências Sociais, Educação e AdministraçãoThe purpose of this article is to establish relationships between the training institutions for children and youths in forming of sailors, both in Brazil and Portugal in the late XIX century. For this reason, the text is organized into three stages, namely: Initially we are going to discourse about the educational program and the operation of the Sailor Apprentices Companies of Brazil and then analyze the Portuguese Sailor Students Schools. Finally, we are going to relativize the two institutions demonstrating the importance of this educational model for the underprivileged, considering the reality of Brazil and Portugal at the time. It is emphasized that this analysis is based on the studies of social education history and the contributions of the sociologist Norbert Elias. The Brazilian sources that gave support to conduct this study were: national legislation, government reports, presidential messages, correspondence and various official documents. And the Portuguese sources used were: legislation, institution regulations, official documents, inspection maps, students’ records and attests. In this way we understand that both studied institutions were very important towards the understanding of the education model that was focused on the poor and marginalized, which contributed to the social incorporation of disadvantaged children and youths, a type of learning that used to be taught on board.Item A autoavaliação na construção da escola democrática(University of Lusophone Humanities and Technology, 2017) Carvalho, Maria João de; Folgado, Cristina; Faculdade de Ciências Sociais, Educação e AdministraçãoThe self-evaluation can shoulder the democratic values of both autonomy and collective empowerment or can be regarded as either a supportive tool to management or a controlling / monitoring procedure of a Meta Regulator State. Bearing in mind what has been said, we intended to search into the way that the educational actors participate in the self-evaluation process. We have carried out a qualitative study, which is included in the interpretative paradigm of the research, by using 16 teachers’ discursive actions based on a semi structured interview. In this respect, it is considered a naturalistic, qualitative and idiographic study. The analysis and interpretation of the participants’ representations enabled us to establish a self-evaluation process which largely exempts us from a debate extensive to many participants. This process doesn’t deeply entail the educative community dropping its potential that triggers a change towards an instrumental and empowerment perspective implied in it; this is the reason why we suggest that we still haven’t found the path to a breakthrough in self-evaluation which is meant to create knowledge, to blaze a trail in development and in the improvement of educational success.Item Gestor escolar inovador : educação da contemporaneidade(University of Lusophone Humanities and Technology, 2017) Amorim, António; Faculdade de Ciências Sociais, Educação e AdministraçãoThis article has as problematic the issue analysis of school management, the current situation and the prospect of innovation of management of Brazilian elementary school. Aims to make a reflection around the current profile, educational Manager, highlighting the gender, age, education, work and remuneration for his role and performance along with thousands of schools throughout the national territory. Then we make an analysis of the approaches of administration, management and innovation of management processes, defining the role of the Manager in each of these approaches. We use qualitative research approach, having the bibliographic survey as part of the instrumental study. This is because the bibliographical research has the advantage of allowing the investigator to have greater coverage of data and information in question, creating facilities for the comparison. We conclude the reflective work the conditions for pointing that is effectively an innovative Manager’s educational profile, that professional who must act in the school and ensure a new pedagogical environment, organization of human relationships, the establishment of a quality education, being skilled and well-paid for the exercise of their daily work.Item A monitorização da reestruturação curricular do Ensino Secundário Geral de Timor-Leste : as vozes de formadores portugueses(University of Lusophone Humanities and Technology, 2017) Ferreira, Adriana; Cabrita, Isabel; Lucas, Margarida; Breda, Zélia; Faculdade de Ciências Sociais, Educação e AdministraçãoThe present work describes the implementation of the new general secondary education curriculum in Timor-Leste, which has been sustained by the provision of continuous training for in-service teachers. The study is based on a qualitative case study and draws on data collected through semi-structured interviews conducted with three Portuguese trainers responsible for the Portuguese, Citizenship and Social Development and Themes in Literature and Culture subjects. Data suggests that didactic resources are still scarce and not delivered on time and that pedagogical practices are based on traditional models. Training provided is mainly focused on the resolution of tasks proposed in in the Teacher’s Guide and Student’s Textbook, as well as on the contents of specific subjects. It can be concluded that further training on the new curriculum should be provided to Timorese in-service teachers.Item Melhorar o ensino e a aprendizagem do electromagnetismo com modelação computacional interactiva(University of Lusophone Humanities and Technology, 2017) Neves, Rui; Faculdade de Ciências Sociais, Educação e AdministraçãoA fundamental aspect of current modelling processes in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) is the increasing importance of advanced knowledge about mathematical physics models and scientific computation methods and technologies. Meaningful learning of this advanced knowledge is a difficult cognitive process which involves the progressive construction of a strong background of knowledge in physics, mathematics and scientific computation, appropriately adjusted to the different STEM areas. The STEM learning environments should thus be based on pedagogical curricula and methodologies that balance the integration of interactive engagement sequences of computational modelling activities, created with computer modelling systems able to offer students opportunities to develop the knowledge of physics, mathematics and scientific computation, and the learning of the specific concepts and processes of each area. In this paper we discuss the application in this context of exploratory and expressive computational modelling activities created in the Modellus environment. We describe a sequence of activities about electromagnetism implemented in undergraduate university engineering courses with first year students, having only elementary knowledge of Secondary Education physics and mathematics and no prior knowledge about scientific computation. We analyse the student’s receptivity degree and the effects generated on the learning process.Item Reformas da educação superior no Brasil : tempo(s) e movimento(s)(University of Lusophone Humanities and Technology, 2017) Vieira, Sofia Lerche; Nogueira, Jaana Flávia Fernandes; Faculdade de Ciências Sociais, Educação e AdministraçãoThis paper discusses the reforms of higher education in Brazil based on two categories, namely: ‘time(s)’ and ‘movement(s)’. The ‘times’ of higher education policies are organized in different moments, from the emergence of the first institutions of this level of education to the present; their ‘movements’, in turn, are reviewed by an analysis of its indicators in the considered intervals, seeking to clarify the dynamics between the public and private sectors. The study allows us to make some relevant observations to policy analysis, specifically: the close link between education policy and the economic and political contexts of their formulation and implementation; the relevance of observing ‘long term’ intervals of analysis to a broader understanding of the policies’ significance; among others.Item O Umbundo no poliedro linguístico angolano : a Língua Portuguesa no entrelaçamento do colonialismo e pós-colonialismo(University of Lusophone Humanities and Technology, 2017) Quinta, Joana; Brás, José Gregório Viegas; Gonçalves, Maria Neves L.; Faculdade de Ciências Sociais, Educação e AdministraçãoA linguagem é um dispositivo de poder. Item Class councils: Organization, leadership & autonomy(University of Lusophone Humanities and Technology, 2017) Saloio, Maria de Fátima Dias dos Santos; Morales Lozano, Juan A.; Faculdade de Ciências Sociais, Educação e AdministraçãoThe need of knowledge and reflection about the organization, leadership and autonomy of the Class Council (CC) of the current school, from the perspective of the different actors, is assumed as a prerequisite to the development and improvement of its performance. Aware that the CC, can be the center enquire motor of significant changes, we present our study aimed to: Know the work of the CC; Chandler the conditions for the exercise of leadership by the director and/or team coordinator; Contrast the autonomy and functioning of the CC with the exercise of educational teams. The study develops a mixed methodology (questionnaires, interviews and discussion groups), to a sample obtained from the universe of two groups of schools to which parallel was developed benchmarking and focusing the research questions in three main areas: Organization, Leadership, Autonomy. The results confirm the importance of the CC as a key piece in the administrative and pedagogical organization in the Portuguese education system, concluding the difficulty to substitute them by the educational teams. The class of Director’s leadership has a direct influence on the functioning of the CC. The CC has a consensual autonomy, cause and consequence of their operational difficulties.Item My last conversation with Paulo Freire(University of Lusophone Humanities and Technology, 2017) Torres, Carlos Alberto; FCSEA - Faculty of Social Sciences, Education and AdministrationI was traveling, at the end of April 1997, to Madrid from Los Angeles where I have lived for almost two decades, to participate in a conference organized by the Universidad Complutense and the University of California. On the way to the airport I had a sudden impulse to call Paulo Freire. I cannot recall why I felt such urgency, but we had been planning to write a book together about new educational challenges at the threshold of the XXI century. The book had a tentative title: Education and the Possible Dream. We wanted to update the discussion about some of Paulo’s great theses and think about ways to implement them in classrooms of the advanced capitalist world. We wanted, to use a phrase dear to Paulo, to “reinvent and not to repeat Paulo Freire.”Item Financiar o ensino superior público com base nos resultados : algumas lições para Portugal(University of Lusophone Humanities and Technology, 2017) Cruz, Maria João; Faculdade de Ciências Sociais, Educação e AdministraçãoO ensino superior português encontra-se numa encruzilhada.
