Resumo
Nos últimos anos assistimos ao aparecimento de um léxico enorme de termos associados à introdução de tecnologias da informação em
contextos educativos. Assim, tornou-se comum a utilização da designação de e-learning para
nomear toda e qualquer forma de ensino a distância mediatizada por tecnologias da informação. Embora o ensino a distância já exista há
várias décadas, a introdução de tecnologia relacionada com o uso da Internet para expandir o seu potencial de divulgação e implementação, assumiu a configuração, tal como aconteceu em
muitas outras áreas empresariais, de um modelo de negócio que tenderia a substituir e mesmo
a anular, todas as outras formas de ensino. Este artigo sumariza as principais formas de desenvolvimento de modelos de ensino a distância suportados em tecnologia multimédia e desenvolve algumas considerações sobre o possível impacto deste tipo de tecnologia, não como modelo alternativo de ensino, e a esse respeito discute-se o relacionamento entre o ensino a
distância e o desenvolvimento da Internet, mas sim como infraestrutura para a solidificação de novas formas de literacia, nomeadamente aquelas
que relevam da utilização de tecnologia computacional em ambientes educativos.
In the last years we have been the witnesses to the appearance of an all new lexicon associated with the use of information technology (IT) on educational settings. Though, it has become common the use of the expression «elearning» to designate any kind of distance learning which is mediated by IT. Although distance learning has been around for a long time, the use of Internet related technology has the potential to greatly expand its implementation and this fact has allowed for the widespread belief, similar to the misguided approach which was taken by so many start-up’s in the first years of the Internet euphoria, that this new business model would some how substitute or even destroy all the other forms of teaching. This paper tries to summarise the main learning models being developed which intensively use multimedia technology. At the same time, we will present some considerations on the possible impact that this kind of technology will have, not as an alternative teaching model– in relation with this topic we will discuss the relationship between distance learning and the Internet development in the near future – but rather as an infrastructure for the consolidation of new forms of literacy, namely those which are related with the use of computational technology on educational environments.
