In this exploratory study, we sought to better understand the relation that the therapeutic alliance can establish with the client's personality , that is to what extent the client's personality , as well as other factors , influences the alliance created between this and the psychotherapist . The sample consisted of 30 participants, of both sexes, attendingor having attended psychotherapy. They were asked to fill in a socio -demographic questionnaire and the Working Alliance Inventory (WAI- S; Tracey & Kokotovic, 1989) , to evaluate the therapeutic alliance and the Big Five Inventory (BFI : Benet -Martinez & John, 1998) to assess personality traits. The results showed that the therapeutic alliance: is influenced by the client's age, and under 25 and over 45 tend to have better results; that is strengthened with the increase of the sessions; that male clients establish stronger alliances with male therapists verifying the same with women and so female clients establish stronger alliances with female therapists; and finally, that the client's personality is a determining factor in the type of alliance formed with the therapist.
