Neste trabalho foram analisadas as consequências psicológicas da situação de desemprego.
Foram comparados dois grupos de 152 participantes cada, em que um estava empregado e
outro desempregado. Os resultados mostraram diferenças acentuadas entre os grupos, com os
participantes desempregados a evidenciarem níveis muito superiores de depressão,
desesperança e ideação suicida, e índices significativamente inferiores de autoestima e
satisfação com a vida. A idade e o tempo de desemprego foram outras variáveis que
mostraram efeitos significativos. No final do trabalho avaliou-se a importância relativa de
cada um destes fatores no desencadear da ideação suicida no grupo de desempregados.
This study analyzed the psychological consequences of unemployment. Two groups of 152 participants each, one employed and the other unemployed were compared. The results showed marked differences between the groups with unemployed participants presenting much higher levels of depression, hopelessness and suicidal ideation, and significantly lower levels of self-esteem and satisfaction with life. Age of participant and duration of unemployment were other variables that showed significant effects. At the end of the study the relative importance of each of these factors in the onset of suicidal ideation in the unemployed group was evaluated.
