Resumo
São várias as teses que correm sobre as razões que impediram ou retardaram a difusão das ideias da Reforma, em Portugal. Porém, uma atenta leitura de muitos dos factos sociais, ocorridos nos espaços sob soberania da coroa portuguesa, desde o século XVI até aos temerários passos dados pelo Rev. Kalley, já em meados do século XIX – para cuja reflexão poderão concorrer estas notas –, constituem indícios consistentes que nos forçam a acreditar que, também em Portugal, desde o início, correram esses «novos ventos» da religião reformada. Apesar da apertada de vigilância, quer das inquisitoriais cautelas, que propunham a cega defesa da doutrina da fé institucionalizada, quer das suspeitosas dúvidas que sempre acompanhavam as ideias de mudança, esses «ventos» chegavam e manifestavam-se, ora envoltos de sinais de contradição e contestação social, importados por via daqueles cuja mobilidade os aproximara dos meios fulcrais europeus onde ocorriam as grandes transformações, ora veiculados pelos agentes da inovação, que, através das naus das demandas e nos portos nacionais de transvaze, juntamente com as mercadorias, deixavam também a atrevida crítica dos olhares e a arriscada inquietação do questionamento.
There are many theses concerning the reasons which prevent or delay the Reform ideas' diffusion, in Portugal. However, a careful reading of many social facts that occurred in places under the Portuguese crown sovereignty, from the 16th century to the reckless steps done by the reverend Kalley, in the middle of the 19th century - notes which are aiming of reflection - are constant signs. They make us believe that since beginning in Portugal, such «new winds» of reformed religion were prevalent. Despite the strong vigilance, whether from the inquisitive caution which proposed the blind doctrine defence of the institutionalized faith or from suspected doubts which were always associated to the ever-changing ideas such «winds» had arrived. These winds were surrounded by contradictory signs and social dispute, which were imported by those who approximated to essentially the European environment where occurred vast transformations, or propagated by innovation agents, who, through demand vessels and on the national ports of discharges, together with merchandise, let also the looks insolent's critic and the risky questioning concern.
