Resumo
Embora os actuais desenvolvimentos legislativos e sociais sejam favoráveis às pessoas com deficiência, certas representações negativas persistem. Os traumas causados no passado em relação à sua vida relacional, afectiva e sexual podem também persistir ao ponto de destruir qualquer possibilidade de reparação. A experiência única de Leslie, agora na casa dos trinta, e de sua mãe, de quem foi separada desde o nascimento, é apenas um exemplo. Entre vergonha e culpa, desqualificação e “assassinato simbólico”, esta mãe e esta filha sofreram a violência física, moral e psicológica como resultado da separação que lhes foi imposta. Ambas foram discriminadas em nome da deficiência da mãe, e ainda hoje pagam pelas consequências. Poucos são os que acreditam nas capacidades e competências das pessoas com deficiências, sobretudo deficiências mentais, para criar uma criança. De facto, o desejo de procriar e ter filhos não é automaticamente reconhecido, apesar de não existir nenhuma lei que o proíba. É preciso que seja levado em conta a voz destas pessoas e que elas sejam envolvidas em todas as decisões que lhes dizem respeito, porque promover a pessoa e responsabilizá-la por suas decisões é socialmente gratificante. Para além da condição de uma pessoa deficiente, existe um ser humano, um sujeito. Palavras-chave: deficiência; parentalidade; separação; traumatismo; filiação.
If nowadays legislative and societal evolutions are in favor of people with disabilities, some negative representations persist. The traumas related to their relational, affective and sexual life caused in the past can also remain, to the point of destroying any chance of repair. Thus, the singular experience of Leslie, now in her thirties, and her mother, from whom she was separated at birth, is one example among many others. Between shame and guilt, disqualification and “symbolic murder”, this mother and her daughter have suffered physical, moral and psychic violence because of this separation that was imposed on them. Both victims of discrimination in the name of the mother’s handicap, they still pay the consequences today. Few people believe in the abilities and skills of people with disabilities, especially mental disabilities, to raise a child. In fact, the desire of procreation and parenthood is not automatically recognized, even if no law forbids it. The voice of these people must be taken into account and they must be associated to all decisions concerning them because the promotion of the person, making them responsible, is socially rewarding.
