Desenvolvimento identitário, valores e clima familiar em jovens adultos: um estudo exploratório

A literatura tem apontado o impacto de diversas variáveis individuais e familiares no
desenvolvimento da identidade. Através de um desenho quantitativo transversal e com
recurso a uma amostra de 275 adultos emergentes (18-30 anos), o presente estudo
exploratório pretendeu analisar: a relação entre o clima familiar, os valores pessoais, a
idade e os processos de desenvolvimento identitário; e as diferenças em relação aos
processos de desenvolvimento da identidade, ao clima familiar e aos valores pessoais
em função da coabitação ou não coabitação com a família de origem. Os resultados
mostraram que: o compromisso é predito pela coesão e apoio familiares, pela idade e
pelos valores coletivistas; a exploração em amplitude é predita pela coesão familiar; a
identificação com o compromisso é predita pela idade e pela coesão familiar; a
exploração em profundidade é predita pela coesão e pela hierarquia familiares; e a
exploração ruminativa é predita pela hierarquia familiar. Para além disso, os adultos
emergentes que coabitam com a família de origem apresentam níveis superiores de
exploração em amplitude. Os resultados realçam a importância do clima relacional
familiar e da coabitação com a família no desenvolvimento identitário do adulto
emergente. As implicações para a prática clínica e para a literatura nas áreas da
identidade, valores pessoais e psicologia da família são discutidas.
The literature has pointed out the impact of multiple individual and family variables in the development of identity. Through a cross-sectional quantitative designs and using a sample of 275 emerging adults (18-30 years), this exploratory study aimed at analyzing: the relationship between the family climate, personal values, age and identity development processes; and diferences related to the identity development process, the family climate and personal values in function of cohabitation or no cohabitation with the family-of-origin. The results showed that: the commitment making is predicted by family cohesion and support, by age and by collectivist values; exploration in breath is predicted by family cohesion; identification with commitment is predicted by age and family cohesion; exploration in depth is predicted by the family cohesion and hierarchy; and ruminative exploration is predicted by the family hierarchy. In addition, emerging adults who live with the family-of-origin have higher levels of exploration in breadth. The results highlighted the importance of family relational climate and cohabitation with the family in the identity development of the emerging adult. The implications for clinical practice and literature in the areas of identity, personal values and family psychology are discussed.
