This research had as main objective to verify the consequences of Solitude and social relations in the cognitive functioning and quality of life of the elderly. The sample used was of convenience, composed of 112 participants, with ages between 65 and 95 years. Participants responded to a sociodemographic questionnaire, Montreal Cognitive Assessment -MCACA (it measures cognitive deficit), Quality of Life Scale (WHOQOL), Mental Health Continuum - Short Form - MHC-SF (it measures wellbeing), and the UCLA Solitude Scale (it measures solitude). The results show that higher levels of solitude and social relationships predict significantly lower levels of quality of life of the elderly. Lower levels of social relationships imply a greater cognitive deficit, however, the same did not happen with solitude.
