Violência em relações de namoro de estudantes universitários: comportamentos, atitudes e correlatos

Abstract

A violência iniciada no namoro pode determinar o futuro padrão da relação, além de ser antecipador de agressões mais graves no futuro. O presente estudo tem como objectivo estudar a violência no namoro entre estudantes universitários. A amostra foi composta por 186 estudantes, entre os 18 e os 39 anos, sendo a maioria mulheres (84,9%). Os instrumentos utilizados foram um questionário sociodemográfico, a Escala de Avaliação Relacional, a Escala de Atitudes acerca da Violência no Namoro, o Inventário de Conflitos nas Relações de Namoro entre Adolescentes e o Questionário de Aceitação e Acção. O tipo de violência mais perpetrado por ambos os géneros foi o psicológico. Não se verificaram diferenças na frequência da perpetração e da vitimação, nos três tipos de violência (psicológica, física e sexual), em ambos os géneros. Nas atitudes, os homens mostraram-se mais legitimadores de violência. Os correlatos dos comportamentos de violência incluíram a satisfação relacional, evitamento experiencial, consumo de drogas e álcool e atitudes sobre a violência. Os programas de prevenção devem centrar-se na violência psicológica e dirigir-se a estudantes universitários de ambos os sexos.

Dating violence may determine the future pattern of the relationship, as well as anticipate more serious aggressions in the future. The present study aimed to study dating violence among university students. The sample was composed of 186 students, between the ages of 18 and 39, with the majority being women (84.9%). The instruments used were a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Relationship Assessment Scale, the Attitudes Toward Dating Violence Scale, the Conflict in Adolescent Dating Relationships Inventory, and the Acceptance and Action Questionnaire. The type of violence most perpetrated by both genders was psychological violence. There were no differences in the frequency of perpetration and victimization in all three types of violence (psychological, physical, and sexual) in both genders. Regarding attitudes, men showed higher levels of violence legitimization. The correlates of violent behaviors included relational satisfaction, experiential avoidance, drug and alcohol use, and attitudes about violence. Prevention programs should focus on psychological violence and target university students of both sexes.
