Resumo
Esta dissertação pretende estudar e definir o conceito de habitação flexível, tendo como
base argumentativa vários estudos académicos, e alguns exemplos de projetos realizados sobre
o tema.
O objetivo deste trabalho será de poder identificar de forma clara as características e os
elementos que compõem o que podemos identificar como uma arquitetura habitacional flexível.
O tema da habitação flexível, não sendo novo, continua a ser pertinente e tendo em conta
a evolução socio cultural da sociedade, torna-se hoje um tema de importância central na
arquitetura.
A globalização, que por um lado despoletou enormes mudanças sociais, económicas e
transformações territoriais; a revolução tecnológica e digital que permite hoje e em muitos casos
a supressão da distância física, as migrações, forçadas ou não, de populações, vêm claramente
obrigar a um novo olhar critico para o que pode ser a habitação multifamiliar, e qual o grau de
flexibilidade que parece ser adequado e recomendado.
Esta dissertação pretende discutir e estudar estratégias e soluções que possam contrariar
o caráter estático e tendencialmente uniforme das unidades de habitação multifamiliar, a fim de
aumentar a flexibilidade e a sua capacidade de adaptação às diferentes exigências e
necessidades nas formas de habitar.
É fundamental criar soluções mais práticas e adaptáveis às diferentes necessidades,
ritmos e funcionalidades da vida das pessoas que habitam esses espaços. A arquitetura deve
considerar cada vez mais o habitar como um organismo vivo aberto a mudanças e mutações,
flexível e adaptável a uma maior diversidade sociocultural.

This dissertation aims to study and define the concept of flexible housing, based on various academic studies and examples of projects conducted on the subject. The objective of this work is to clearly identify the characteristics and elements that constitute what we can recognize as flexible residential architecture. The topic of flexible housing, while not new, remains relevant. Given the socio-cultural evolution of society, it has become a central theme in architecture today. Globalization, on one hand, has triggered significant social and economic changes as well as territorial transformations. The technological and digital revolution, which now often eliminates physical distance, coupled with migrations—whether forced or voluntary—of populations, clearly necessitates a fresh critical perspective on what multi-family housing could be. This includes exploring the appropriate and recommended level of flexibility. This dissertation intends to discuss and study strategies and solutions that can counteract the static and often uniform nature of multi-family housing units. The goal is to enhance flexibility and the capacity to adapt to various demands and needs of living arrangements. It is essential to create more practical and adaptable solutions that cater to the different needs, rhythms, and functionalities of people inhabiting these spaces. Architecture must increasingly view dwelling as a living organism open to changes and mutations, flexible and adaptable to a greater socio-cultural diversity.
