O olhar do novo herói digital

Abstract

Esta investigação analisa a representação do personagem digital no desenvolvimento da trama dos filmes de género de fantasia, ação e aventura: Jake de Avatar, César de Planeta dos Macacos e Hulk. Os personagens digitais com o sistema MoCap, captura de movimento por um ator humano, oferecem aos filmes de fantasia, aventura e ação uma nova perspetiva no que respeita ao entendimento da história e do personagem, e por esse motivo foi considerado importante aprofundar o conhecimento deste novo “herói” digital. Um herói que passa pelo mesmo arco de transformação dos heróis humanos, com características físicas, psicológicas, sociais e de ação que os distingue do seu par humano. Por meio de extensa bibliografia e estudo qualitativo de entrevistas semiestruturadas a especialistas, este alinha-se com diversas teorias que refletem que argumentos e personagens se anulam no que diz respeito à componente de dominância. Em paralelo a esta temática é dado destaque à importância da mensagem e a relação com o espetador. Por possuírem os valores humanos, da ética, da moral, da cidadania, da própria humanidade há muito perdidos pelos humanos, infere-se que possam ser os melhores interlocutores na passagem destas mensagens chave

This investigation examines the representation of digital characters in the plot development of fantasy, action, and adventure films: Jake from Avatar, Caesar from Planet of the Apes, and The Hulk from Hulk. Digital characters that utilize the mocap system (motion capture by a human actor) offer fantasy, adventure, and action films a new perspective regarding the understanding of the story and the character, and for this reason it was considered important to deepen the knowledge of this new digital “hero”. A hero who goes through the same transformation arc as human heroes, with physical, psychological, social and action characteristics that distinguish them from their human counterparts. Through an extensive bibliography qualitative study of semi-structured interviews with subject-matter experts, this study aligns with several theories that say that a film’s story and its characters cancel each other out regarding the question of which aspect carries more importance or is the basis for the other. Along with this theme, emphasis is given to the importance of the message transmitted and the relationship formed with the spectator. By possessing human values, ethics, morals, citizenship, and humanity itself long lost by humans, it is inferred that they may be the best interlocutors to transmit these key messages.
