The analyses of Moacyr Scliar’s work, a brazilian writer from Rio Grande do Sul, with jewish origins, intents to show the reality behind the fiction, so it is desirable to study the writer as studying his work. Writer and characters they both get together and aside in a spirit of self-criticism that emerge from the written work. Historical memories and identity questions are approached in relation with the exclusion versus inclusion of ashquenazim jews. Memories that intensify the problem of acculturation and preservation of both jewish religion and culture. In the Author’s view, it is the jewish culture that must remain. In Scliarian literature we get to see a confrontation of identity for over three ashquenazim generations. Different behaviours and ways of being that go from a resignation attitude, an active contestation, a nationalist and messianic hope (in Eretz Israel edification) to an alienation attitude and an identity doubt from those who walk around and frustrate their grandparents wishes and dreams. Messianic hope, corrosive humor, chassidism and jewish guilt are components of every character, which allows to introduce a great dynamic in Scliar’s literature and to enforce jewish culture itself
