Resumo
A presente dissertação pretende analisar o impacto da passagem de Humberto Delgado
pela cidade de Gouveia durante a campanha presidencial de 1958 e como o mesmo foi
tratado na imprensa escrita. Foram analisados artigos de quatro jornais nacionais, dois
regionais e um local, de modo a compreender qual a influência sobre o tratamento
noticioso da Censura, filiação política e condicionamentos sociais, demográficos,
económicos e políticos da vila de Gouveia.
O objetivo da presente dissertação é compreender a importância da campanha presidencial
e da figura de Humberto Delgado em Portugal e em Gouveia, pois apesar da extensa obra
publicada no âmbito da temática da campanha de 1958 e da figura do General Humberto
Delgado a nível nacional, existe ainda hoje pouca informação acerca do impacto dos
mesmos a nível regional e local, à semelhança de tantos outros capítulos da história
contemporânea.
Conhecer a história contemporânea local é fundamental para a preservação de memórias e
identidades socioculturais.
É ainda objetivo da presente dissertação analisar a campanha do General Humberto
Delgado em Gouveia, que, consideramos, espelha o que foi vivido por todo o país.
The present dissertation aims to analyse the impact of Humberto Delgado’s passage through Gouveia during the campaign that preceded the presidential elections of 1958 and how that impact translated in to the written press. Articles from four national, two regional and one local newspaper were analysed to understand how news treatment was influenced by censorship, political affiliation and social, demographic, economic and political constrains of the town of Gouveia. This dissertation’s goal is to understand the importance of the presidential campaign and of Humberto Delgado in Portugal and in Gouveia, for although there is extensive work published about the campaign of 1958 and General Humberto Delgado’s role nationally there is little information about their impact regionally and locally, like with so many other contemporary history chapters. Knowing our contemporary local history is fundamental in the preservation of sociocultural memories and identities. Furthermore, it is the purpose of this dissertation to tell and remember the history of General Humberto Delgado’s campaign in Gouveia, considered by us to mirror what was experienced throughout the country.
