dc.description.abstractAo longo dos séculos, as cidades têm sido polos de mudanças drásticas. Com a passagem entre as diversas modernidades, os centros urbanos foram obrigados a extrapolar os seus limites e alterar os seus modos de gestão e a própria economia. Com a entrada da terceira modernidade dá-se início à polinucleação e a necessidade de adaptação às novas tecnologias da informação e da comunicação torna-se imperativa mesmo nos centros históricos, bem como a implementação de políticas de gestão territorial – municipais e intermunicipais. No caso de Angra do Heroísmo, a primeira cidade no nosso país a ter a classificação de Património Cultural da Humanidade por parte da UNESCO, após o sismo de 1980, a sua expansão para a periferia e a desconexão com a baía são dois fatores que contribuem para o seu abandono populacional. Deste modo torna-se necessário rever a ligação do Centro Histórico com a frente marítima, aplicando políticas de gestão territorial que contribuam para a regeneração urbana e para a revitalização e valorização do património, trabalhando todos os espaços como um só e atraindo a população e o turismo. Só através de uma adaptação constante, rápida e precisa sobre os novos paradigmas será possível encarar e acompanhar os modelos económicos globais e a evolução das cidades. Estes fatores, realçando a insularidade da ilha, fazem sentido integrados numa base de planeamento sustentável e que vá além dos limites do município levando a um pensamento global de desenvolvimento da própria Região Autónoma dos Açores.pt
dc.description.abstractOver the centuries, cities have been centers of dynamic change. With the passage between different modernities, urban centers were forced to extrapolate their old borders and change their management methods, as well as the economy itself. With the entry of the third modernity, urban centers now face new challenges arising from the new emerging global economy which is focused on adapting to new information and communication technologies, creating this urban dynamic trend for polynucleated urban development, impacting the depopulation of central areas and its subsequent commercial crisis and degradation of buildings. In these times of new logics in the reconfiguration of the cities, it is imperative to adopt and implement land management policies, even in historical centers - municipal and inter-municipal – to measure up to the existing potential. In the particular case of Angra do Heroísmo, the first city in our country having the classification of Intangible Cultural Heritage City of Humanity conferred by UNESCO, after the earthquake in 1980, its expansion into the suburbs and disconnection with the bay are two factors that contribute to the drop of its population. It now matters to explore the potential of Angra as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Hence, this assessment, still exploratory, attempts to review the connection of the historic center with the Waterfront, applying land management policies that may contribute to urban regeneration and revitalization and enhancement of its heritage, working all spaces as a whole and alluring the population and tourism to the city.en
