Estudo da memória de reconhecimento com recurso à resposta pupilar

Desde a década de 60, a resposta pupilar tem vindo a destacar-se como uma medida indireta dos processos cognitivos e emocionais. O presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar se a resposta pupilar é um indicador de memória de reconhecimento. Uma tarefa de memória de reconhecimento, constituída por 6 ordens distintas, cada uma formada por 171 palavras da língua portuguesa, compostas por 7 letras cada, divididas em palavras de estudo, interferência e teste, foi aplicada a uma amostra de 34 estudantes universitários. O número de erros, o grau de confiança e o tempo de reação, foram as medidas comportamentais exploradas, bem como a medida da resposta pupilar. A primeira hipótese foi comprovada, verificando-se uma diminuição do tamanho da pupila com o aumento do intervalo de retenção no reconhecimento de palavras, validando a associação entre a força do sinal de memória de informação verbal e o tamanho da pupila, não se verificando um efeito principal do grau de confiança, tal como evidenciado pelos resultados consistentes dos old/new effect da pupila.
Since the 1960s, the pupillary response has come to stand out as an indirect measure of cognitive and emotional processes. The present study aimed to evaluate whether the pupillary response is an indicator of recognition memory. A memory task of recognition, consisting of 6 distinct orders, each formed by 171 words of the Portuguese language, composed by 7 letters each, divided in words of study, interference and test, was applied to a sample of 34 university students. The number of errors, the degree of confidence and the reaction time were the behavioral measures explored, as well as the measurement of the pupillary response. The first hypothesis was confirmed by a decrease in pupil size with an increase in the retention interval in word recognition, validating the association between the strength of the verbal information memory signal and the pupil size, there was no main effect of the degree of confidence, as evidenced by the consistent results of pupil's old/new effect.
