Parental educational styles as well as the dimensions of parental behavior and personality have emerged as important determinants of risk behavior in driving. This research studied the relationship between driving behavior, parental educational styles and personality on young drivers. Participated in this study 302 university students aged between 18 and 24 years (M = 21:00, DP = 1:59) with driving license. We used the Parental Authority Questionnaire (PAQ; Buri, J., 1991; translated version by Boeckel & Sarriera, 2005), Driver Behavior Questionnaire (DBQ, Reason et. al., 1990; Translated and adapted by Brites 2006) and the Big Five Inventory ( BFI ; Benet - Martinez & John , 1998) . The results show that the perception of authoritarian and permissive styles is positively associated with risk behavior in driving, no significant correlation between the authoritative style and behavior driving risk. Regarding personality, the neuroticism, openness and extroversion are positively correlated with risk behaviors in driving, a negative association was find between conscientiousness and unintentional violation. These results suggest the authoritative style is protective against risk in driving.
