The aim of the present study was to characterize intra-familiar versus extra-familiar child sexual offenders according to their psychopathological and personality profile. The sample was collected in prisons in the north and center of the country, made up of 39 male participants convicted of sexual abuse of minors and divided into two groups, intra and extra familiar. The data were collected by filling 4 scales; The Brief Inventory of Symptoms (BSI), Personality Five Factors Inventory (NEO-FFI), the Positive and Negative Affect Scale (PANAS) and the Barrat Impulsivity Scale (BIS). The data were analyzed through the statistical procedures of multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA). The results obtained demonstrate that the extra-familiar child sexual offenders presented significantly more cognitive impulsiveness, more negative trait-emotions, higher levels of neuroticism, and further reported significantly more psychopathological symptoms in relation to the intra-familiar child sex offenders.
