Considerando que a água é um fator que, historicamente, tem vindo a condicionar a
localização e a organização dos aglomerados urbanos, esta dissertação tem como caso de
estudo a Reserva Mundial de Surf da Ericeira, a primeira da Europa e a segunda do mundo.
Começando por enquadrá-lo no contexto das operações de regeneração e proteção
das frentes de mar, que se acentuaram no século XX, descreve as principais características
deste território, fazendo um paralelismo com as restantes Reservas Mundiais de Surf
consagradas pela Save the Waves Coalition, e identifica as normas regulamentares
aplicáveis do ponto de vista da gestão territorial, culminando com a formulação de um
conjunto de hipóteses de intervenção para preservar e valorizar a Reserva Mundial de Surf
da Ericeira e a sua zona envolvente.
Na elaboração destas hipóteses assumiu-se como pressuposto fundamental a
manutenção dos habitats no seu estado natural, de modo a preservar esse património único
que são as ondas. Assim, propõe-se, para além de uma efetiva delimitação da área da
Reserva com vista à elaboração de instrumentos de gestão territorial específicos, a
recuperação dos equipamentos já existentes e a instalação de estruturas amovíveis e
sustentáveis, que possam elevar as condições de fruição disponibilizadas aos utilizadores.
Historically, water is a factor that determines the location and organization of urban areas. In this sense, this work presents a case study of the World Surfing Reserve of Ericeira, the first in Europe and second in the world. This case study begins to be framed in the context of regeneration operations and protection of sea fronts, which have widened in the twentieth century. Then we describe the main features of this territory, making a parallel with the remaining World Surfing Reserves approved by Save the Waves Coalition. We identify the applicable regulations from the point of view of territorial management and ultimately formulate hypotheses for intervention to preserve and enhance the World Surfing Reserve of Ericeira and its surrounding area. In preparing these hypotheses we assume as a fundamental assumption the maintenance of habitats in their natural state in order to preserve the unique heritage of the waves. Thus, we propose the delimitation of the reserve area for the development of specific territorial management instruments, as well as the recovery of the existing equipment and the installation of removable and sustainable structures in order to improve the conditions available to users.
