Método: A recolha da amostra incluiu 9 participantes sobreviventes de cancro (M=53,11;
8 questionários: Termómetro Emocional; Checklist de Problemas; Hospital Anxiety and
Depression Scale; Europe Health Interview Surveys Quality of Life; Psychological Well-Being
escala HADS (X2= 6,467; p value= 0,039).

Introduction: The narrative approach and virtual reality (VR) allow patients to share their stories of the oncological process, value them, assign meanings to the experience and allow them to reflect on the experience and the psychosocial impact of cancer. Since there are no studies on the effects of narratives and VR on cancer survivors, a VR intervention tool focused on the oncological process was developed; engaging in a more impactful and vivid narrative process. Objectives: The general objective is to understand how this methodology promotes the adaptation of cancer survivors and its psychosocial effects. Method: The sample collection included 9 cancer survivors (M=53.11; SD=16.602), with the following inclusion criteria: (a) patients aged 18 years or over; (b) in the post-treatment phase (i.e., follow-up) and without active disease; (c) in psychological follow-up at the Liga Portuguesa Contra o Cancro (Regional Nucleus of the South). Pre-test, post-test and follow-up evaluations (3 months after the experiment) were carried out with 8 questionnaires: Emotional Thermometer; Problem Checklist; Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale; Europe Health Interview Surveys Quality of Life; Psychological Well-Being Scales; Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire; Posttraumatic Growth Inventory; digital application quiz. Results: In the analysis of quantitative data, there was only a decrease in anxiety on the HADS scale (X2= 6.467; p value= 0.039). We proceeded to carry out the analysis of Comparisons by Pairwise Method, verifying significant differences from the pre-test moment to the follow-up. However, in the analysis of the qualitative data it was possible to observe that the participants recognized the strategies and behaviors they used to fight against cancer and value their own history and the help received in the most difficult moments. Conclusions: The present study presents the first results on the effects of the narrative approach using VR in the lives of cancer survivors. There was an improvement in anxiety and appreciation of history, suffering, awareness of resilience and hope for the future in cancer survivors. This methodology provided a better understanding of each phase of the oncological process and the importance of narrating and reliving the story.
