O presente artigo, partindo desta base
sistema informativo do Estado Novo. Tudo
parece indicar que a actuação do novo regime
junto da imprensa de província» foi prudente,
gradual e planificada. As intervenções punitivas
Subsequently to the approval of the 1933 Portuguese Constitution, Salazar’s regime introduced a new information policy grounded in two institutions: the Central Office of Censor - ship and the National Propaganda Office (SPN – Secretariado de Propaganda National). In its first year of activity, the SPN produced two political documents concerning the policies towards the Regional Press. One of these docu - ments remains hitherto unpublished. This article, sustaining itself on documental basis, seeks to contribute to a reflection on Salazar’s attempt to launch this new system of information. The author indicates that Salazar regime’s behaviour towards the Regional Press was cautiously and gradually planned. Repres - sive interventions attempted to deal with existing regional differences, relying on the support of newspapers with circumscribed local influence.
