Resumo
A trilogia Liberdade, Igualdade, Fraternidade, concebida em pleno século das luzes, sob inspiração do ideal do liberalismo, que iluminou a Revolução Francesa (1789), assinalou, a um tempo, um objecto de combate político e um projecto de mudança nas estruturas sociais vigentes durante o Estado absoluto, que imperou no Ancien Régime. Liberdade, Igualdade, Fraternidade: trilogia da nova fisionomia, nascida nos finais do século XVIII. E hoje? Que sentido, que limites a esta trilogia?
Somos livres, iguais, fraternos? Onde a liberdade, neste mundo que sacraliza cada vez mais o dinheiro
e a propriedade, onde um cartão de crédito anuncia, na sua publicidade, que ter é poder?
Onde a igualdade, neste universo de iguais (cada vez mais) diferenciados, em que as leis, aparentemente iguais para todos, não passam de aparência formal, criando, depois, no momento da aplicação, iguais diferentes? Onde a igualdade, na justiça, na saúde, na educação? Onde a fraternidade? Onde a fraternidade neste mundo em que se promovem guerras fratricidas porque é (também) conveniente enriquecer as fábricas e as manipuladoras de armamento?
Haverá lugar à esperança, neste mundo cruel, no dealbar do século XXI?
The trilogy Liberty, Equality, Fraternity, conceived in the century of Lights, under the inspiration of the liberal ideals that guided the French Revolution (1789), opened up, simultaneously, an object of political combat and a project for change in the existing social structures, during the Absolutist State that characterized the Ancient Régime. Liberty, Equality, Fraternity: a trilogy with a new configuration born at the end of the eighteenth-century. But what about today? What are the sense and/or the limits of such trilogy? Are we free, equal and fraternal? When the liberty sacralizes more and more money and property? When a credit card announces in its commercials that its acquisition means to have power? Where can we find equality in this universe of equals more and more differentiated, where laws, apparently applied to all, are nothing but a formal figure, thus creating, at the very moment of their application, different equals? Where can we find equality? In the justice system, in healthcare, in education? Where can we find fraternity? Where can we find it in a world where fratricide wars are being promoted simply because of its convenience to enrich the factories and the manipulators of arms? Is there any place for hope in this cruel world at the dawn of the twenty first-century?
