Resumo
Nos dias de hoje é um facto assumido que os jardins públicos são fundamentais no meio urbano, pela sua contribuição ambiental, social, económica e estética, mas também enquanto elemento de valorização urbana. Em meio urbano, o contacto com a natureza tem vindo a tornar-se mais escasso, à medida que as cidades se desenvolvem e expandem, numa época marcada pela excessiva urbanização e pela escassez de recursos naturais e económicos.
A presente dissertação tem como objetivo principal refletir sobre um modo de
pensar e construir a cidade onde a implementação de espaços verdes em meio urbano surge como elemento fundamental. O jardim adquire nesta perspetiva um papel central no desenvolvimento sustentável da cidade.
A primeira parte da dissertação corresponde a uma revisão da literatura analisando, num primeiro momento, a evolução histórica de modelos de cidade com um enfoque na integração de espaços verdes e, num segundo momento, a evolução histórica dos jardins públicos da cidade do Porto - onde se localiza o projeto de intervenção que será analisado na terceira parte. A segunda parte da dissertação centra-se no estudo de cinco jardins de uso público da cidade do Porto. Por fim, a terceira parte da dissertação constitui uma reflexão em torno do desenho de um jardim público. Conclui-se a dissertação com um conjunto de considerações finais.
It is widely acknowledged that public gardens have a key role in urban areas, due to their environmental, social, economic and aesthetic contribution, but also as element that contributes to a certain urban enhancement. In urban areas, the contact with nature has become scarcer, as cities grow and expand in an era marked by excessive urbanization and by the scarcity of natural and economic resources. The main goal of the dissertation is to reflect on a way of thinking and building the city where the implementation of green spaces in urban areas is a fundamental element. In this perspective the public garden acquires a central role in the sustainable development of the city. The first part of the dissertation is a literature review analyzing, in a first moment, the historical evolution of city models with a focus on the integration of green spaces and, in a second moment, the historical evolution of the public gardens of Porto – where the intervention project that will be discussed in the third part is located. The second part of the dissertation focuses on the study of five gardens for public use of Porto. Finally, the third part of the dissertation is a reflection on the design of a public garden. The dissertation is concluded with a number of final considerations.
