With the consecutive deployment of military personnel to operational theaters abroad, it’s becoming relevant to understand how the perception of stress can be influenced by personality and social support. The resiliency of military personnel is of central importance, because of this concept depends the life of military personnel, their efficiency and the success of the mission. The sample consists of 102 military Comandos, deployed to the operational theater of Afghanistan, the age range is from 19 to 46 years, with an average of 24,79 and a standard deviation of 4,24. In the present investigation was used a demographic questionnaire, the Big Five Inventory, BFI (Benet -Martinez e John, 1998), the Perceived Stress Scale, PSS (Cohen, Kamarck e Mermelstein, 1983), and the Satisfaction with Social Support Scale, ESSS (Ribeiro, 1999). The data was collected in two moments, before deployment and after deployment. After analysis, it was verified that personality plays a central role in the perception of stress, and has influence over the available social support, for that fact the dimensions extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, and openness, contribute significantly. Neuroticism is negatively correlated with stress and social support. It was also verified that social support plays a major role in the perception of stress.
