Youngsters with neurodevelopmental disorders may express desires and hopes for conjugality, parenthood, and a sexual life. However, their experience and knowledge in this area may be limited and therefore they may present sexual behaviors that may be considered inappropriate by our society. Parents or guardians can be directly and / or indirectly responsible for these limitations, often through worries or prejudices, resulting from a lack of information and communication. This study focuses on the need to evaluate the perception that parents have about their children's sexuality, with and without neurodevelopmental disorders, assessing areas such as sexual behavior, sexual education, knowledge about privacy and social behavior of their children, as well as concerns that these parents or guardians may have regarding this subject. To this end, a scale - Sexual Behavior Scale - was applied online to 64 Portuguese parents or guardians, 47 of those with children without neurodevelopmental disorders and 17 with children with neurodevelopmental disorders. These youngsters are between 10 and 18 years old. The present study concludes that parents of youngsters with neurodevelopmental disorders have more concerns about the sexuality of their children, compared to parents of youngsters without neurodevelopmental disorders, experiencing greater anxiety levels and more overprotective behaviors. In addition, according to the parents of children with neurodevelopmental disorders, these youngsters have lower levels of sexual education and knowledge related to privacy, compared to youngsters without neurodevelopmental disorders.
