Devido à sua elevada prevalência, impacto e cronicidade, as perturbações de ansiedade na
infânciatêm sido alvo de uma vasta atençãoda literatura nas últimas décadas. Porém, poucos
estudos têm o papel do pai no contexto das relações pais e criança ansiosa, nem tampouco
têm dado enfoque às emoções e ao comportamento parental em situações potencialmente
ansiogénicas para os filhos.Deste modo, este estudo tem como objetivoexplorar as emoções
parentais e o comportamento dos pais de crianças com perturbação da ansiedade (PA),
assim como as cognições associadas aos mesmos, a partir de duas situações hipotéticas.Este
estudo tem um caráter exploratório, qualitativo e transversal, tendo recorrido à análise de
conteúdo de entrevistas aplicadas aos pais. Participaram no estudo23 pais do sexo
masculinode crianças com PA, entre os 9 e os 12 anos. Foram aplicadas aos pais umaficha
de dados sociodemográficose uma entrevista semiestruturada dirigida a pais e cuidadores de
crianças com diagnóstico de PApara explorarmos as cognições, as emoções e os
comportamentos dos pais face a dois cenários potencialmente geradores de ansiedade nos
filhos.Nos resultados obtidos da situação hipotética de tipo físico a maioria dos pais revela
que sentiria preocupação, procuraria apoio especializado e considerar-se-iam responsáveis
por gerir a situação. Na situação hipotética de tipo social,os pais antecipam que não
sentiriamnenhuma emoção desagradávele procurariam obter mais informações junta da
criança perante esse cenário, ainda que interpretassem a situação comoameaçadora. A
identificação de padrões de resposta baseados nas respostas cognitivas, emocionais e
comportamentais dos pais a situações neutras do dia-a-dia permite compreender melhor
possíveis formas de transmissão de ansiedade intergeracional e avaliar/intervir de forma
mais eficaz com as famílias de crianças com PA em contexto clínico.
Due to the high prevalence, impact and chronicity, childhood anxiety disorders have been subject of extensive literature attention in recent decades. However, few studies have taken into account the role of the father in the context of parents and anxious children, nor have they focused on parental emotions and behavior in potentially anxious situations for their children. Thus, this study aims to explore the parental emotions and behavior of parents of children with anxiety disorder (AD), as well as the cognitions associated with them, from two hypothetical situations. This study has an exploratory, qualitative and transversal character, having resorted to the analysis of content of interviews applied to the parents. Twenty-three male parents of children with AD between the ages of 9 and 12 participated in the study. Parents were given a socio-demographic data sheet and a semi-structured interview directed to parents and caregivers of children diagnosed with AD to explore their parents' cognitions, emotions and behaviors in relation to two scenarios that could potentially generate anxiety in their children. The results obtained from the hypothetical situation of the physical type, most parents reveal that they would be worried, would seek specialist support and would consider themselves responsible for managing the situation. In the social hypothetical situation, parents anticipate that they wouldn’t feel any unpleasant emotion and would seek more information from the child in this scenario, even if they interpreted the situation as threatening.The identification of response patterns based on the cognitive, emotional and behavioral responses of parents to neutral situations of daily life allows a better understanding of possible forms of intergenerational anxiety transmission and to evaluate / intervene more effectively with the families of children with AD in clinical context.
