Considerada a neoplasia
Apresenta crescimento lento, localmente invasivo e ocasionalmente metastático.
Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is a primary malignant neoplasm that originates in cells of the epithelial tissue, the keratinocytes. Considered the most frequent ocular neoplasm in dairy cattle, it causes high economic losses. It is slow growing, locally invasive and occasionally metastatic. It is a cosmopolitan and multifactorial disease, with the main etiological causes being prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation and the absence of periocular and corneoscleral skin pigmentation. The clinical signs observed are mucopurulent ocular discharge, periocular excoriation, chronic conjunctivitis and the presence of hemorrhagic lesions and crusts on the eyelids. In clinical practice is often diagnosed through visual inspection, however, the histopathological exam of the lesion is essential to confirm the diagnosis. Treatment depends on tumor extension and lesion location. Surgical treatment is the method of choice. Since the main cause is the harmful effect of UV radiation, the provision of shaded areas to the animals is essential. The objective of this work is to accomplish a presentation and discussion of three case-studies followed during the curricular intership.
