Resumo
A presente dissertação consiste em compreender a evolução urbana da cidade de Sines, desde a sua formação à atualidade e as causas que levaram a cidade a separar-se da sua frente de água, como base de uma proposta de projeto que pretende reaproximá-las.
Desde a antiguidade, que as frentes de água desempenham um papel fundamental para o desenvolvimento urbano e económico das cidades, principalmente na presença de portos e instalações industrias. Através do estudo das principais fases do desenvolvimento na relação entre a cidade e a sua frente de água, pretende-se identificar quais foram as razões que levaram ao seu afastamento e como se pode melhorar esta relação. A cidade de Sines situa-se numa região dotada de recursos naturais, nomeadamente o seu extenso mar de águas profundas naturais. Apesar do complexo portuário e das instalações industriais terem desempenhado um papel vital para o crescimento urbano e económico da cidade, também causaram nestas alterações dramáticas, sobretudo o afastamento da cidade da frente de água. Consequentemente pretende-se propor uma restruturação urbana na cidade e na orla costeira com o intuito de restabelecer a união que existia entre ambas no passado.
The present dissertation consists in understanding the urban evolution of the city of Sines, from its formation to the present and the causes that led the city to separate from its waterfront, as the starting point of a project proposal that intends to reconnect them. Since ancient times, waterfronts have played a key role in the urban and economic development of cities, especially in the presence of ports and industrial facilities. Through the study of the main phases in the relationship between the city and its waterfront, it is intended to identify the reasons that led to their separation and how to improve this relationship. The city of Sines is located in a region endowed with natural resources, in particular its extensive sea of deep natural waters. Although the port complex and industrial facilities played a vital role in the urban and economic growth of the city, they also caused dramatic changes, especially the removal of the city from the waterfront. Consequently, this study proposes an urban restructuring of the city and its coastline with the intention of restoring the union that existed between them in the past.
